Description
ANTIQUE “DIETZ JUNIOR WAGON” COLD BLAST KEROSENE LANTERN
Robert Edwin Dietz first began selling whale oil, camphene lamps & lanterns in 1840 at the age of 22. Robert & his brother Michael patented the first practical flat wick burner especially designed for the then new fuel oil, kerosene, in 1859.
The following decade Robert sold his interest in "Dietz & Company" to begin manufacturing "Irwin Patent" tubular lanterns after buying the defunct Archer & Pancoast Company from a receiver in 1868. Though famous for well built indoor & outdoor kerosene lanterns, the company was a major player in the automotive lighting industry from the 1920s through into the 1960s.
The Dietz Junior Wagon Lantern was produced from 1916 to 194? with left side bracket & dash clip. Produced with 3" Red Lens after 1938 (This lantern has a 2” Red Lens)
This neat Dietz Junior Wagon Cold Blast Kerosene Lantern has been restored – a real nice ornamental piece for that barn, man cave, rustic farm home etc
