Description
A print on board, in its original frame, of Sir Gerald Kelly's 'Princess Saw Ohn Nyun.' A stunning example of 1960s portraiture. There is a certain sense of serenity this image brought to my bedroom. It's also a little melancholy, as the girl in the painting looks sad - an opened letter discarded behind her. I've just moved and, sadly, I'm seriously short on wall-space to hang all my artworks. I really need to cull! The print is in its original timber frame - very vintage or retro in style and without glass. Unfortunately, someone has tried to remove a couple of fly-spots by dabbing with, I am guessing, a damp cloth. So there's a couple of daubs ... rub marks. These are very small and not particularly noticeable, but I always mention all flaws. I will add more photographs on Monday.
About Sir Gerald Kelly: British portrait painter Sir Gerald Kelly went to Eton and studied art in Paris. Whilst travelling overseas he was inspired to create a series of paintings of Burmese dancers - of which this is one. He became a firm favourite with the royal family and has had his work displayed in the Tate Gallery. His pieces have become very collectable over the last decade and are now very sought after investment pieces.

They're less noticeable, actually. Seller comment Saturday, 20 April 2024
