Description

Photos don’t do it justice! This is a beautiful statement piece that everyone comments on.

Bought for $320 about 6 months ago, spent 12+ hours and $100+ upgrading it.

This vintage kiwiana buffet sideboard with mirror-lined liquor cabinet is in great condition and very sturdy. None of the drawers stick, the hinges are smooth, the mirrors and glass are in great condition. No signs of borer or damage.

40cm deep, 180cm wide, 81cm tall

I attempted to give it a classy upgrade with matte finish navy blue furniture paint and good quality gold-leaf trim to resemble the luxe sideboards I couldn’t afford. I used high quality products and didn’t skip any steps. It gets a lot of compliments and looks awesome, especially when the blue and gold catch the light. But it does have a few minor imperfections when you look extremely close-up (see last photo)—but I’m the only person fussy enough to notice so far :)

Selling for $1 reserve because I am unsure how much value my upcycling added (since it looks great but not as perfect as a professional upcycle people would pay $2000 for).

But who can afford that, ha! This is your chance to get the next-best-thing at a bargain price, without having to spend a whole weekend on it yourself :)

Winner must pick up from Blockhouse Bay asap.

  • Hi. What was it painted with? m********3 (136)7:14 am, Sat, 18 May Hiya, it was painted with a good quality furniture paint, in a matte-finish navy blue. It was carefully sanded and primed beforehand to ensure it will age well. The gold leaf on the edge was adhered with mod podge and then the whole thing was sealed with a matte furniture wax. allemora (162) • Saturday, 18 May 2024
  • What kind of paint, I mean. Sorry. m********3 (136)7:21 am, Sat, 18 May It’s a rustoleum brand furniture paint from Mitre 10. It looks good and AFAIK I did everything correctly—I just wanted to be honest with potential buyers that it’s a “good DIY makeover”, and not as perfect as a professional powder coat. allemora (162) • Saturday, 18 May 2024
  • Quick note to prospective buyers: this is a risk-free trade. It looks even better in person than the photos, and I truly think you will love it (all my friends do!). But if for any reason you’re disappointed, you are welcome to cancel the trade with no hard feelings. I’ve been super transparent about its imperfections, but it really is a great piece and people will assume it cost you a lot more than it did :) Seller comment Saturday, 18 May 2024
