Square Rigged Sailing Ships Visiting Nelson 1841 – 1910 by P.D. Raggett. Card covered book of 126 pages and printed in 2002.

The cover does have a minute tear to the bottom and a small bit of wear to the spine cover and a couple very light marks on the back. The contents themselves are in lovely condition and the book also has some really lovely pictures in it, please see pics. The contents are- introduction, list of ships photographs, a history of merchant sailing ships in Nelson, exports and imports, the different types of sail rigging, ships names in alphabetical order, ships in chronological order 1841 to 1910, individual ships details (NZ registered), individual ships details (foreign registered), bibliography.

The original records of these ships were burnt in a fire in Wellington in 1934. The author managed to compile this book through extensive research through three Nelson papers, the Examiner, the Colonist and The Nelson Mail. Sixty-Eight Years’ worth of newspapers which took the author 4 months to read. There were still some gaps which the author has used other sources in New Zealand and overseas.

This book includes a history of merchant sailing ships in Nelson, Exports and Imports, the different types of sail rigging, ships names in Alphabetical order, Ships in Chronological Order, individual ships details of both New Zealand registered and foreign registered.
