Description
Designed and built by the well known Tauranga model engineer Mr Stephen James to provide reliable club ride-on passenger hauling services. Commissioned in October 2005. Purchased by me in January 2007 for $10,000.00 to provide primary motive power for my ground level railway work train. Since then carefully stored inside and under cover and never used. Letting it go now because of ill health.
EC9 weighs 300 kg approx. It is 1840 mm over couplers, width 400 mm, height from rail with pantographs lowered 660 mm. Well built rugged construction and in very good 'as new' condition. It now needs four new replacement deep cycle batteries.
Comes complete with automatic battery charger (Lindford 24 volt 8 amp), hand controller, rolling steel stand, vehicle platform for transport, dust cover and full handbook of instructions.
Loco is powered by two EMD 24 volt 40 amp motors with worm drive to all wheels. Four 210 amp hour 6 volt deep cycle batteries feed the motors through two DS Dynamic Controls controllers. Hand controller has rotary speed controller, engine brakes switch, and horn button activating twin air horns. Dash panel equipped with master switch, light switches, vacuum pump switch, reverse switch and train vacuum brake lever. Volt and ammeter gauges plus gauges showing vacuum tank and engine brake pressure.
Dynamic braking by the motors supplemented by vacuum engine brakes to all wheels.
The loco is geared through worm drive to all wheels such that it reaches full power and top speed at 10-11 kph. All wheels are sprung and a swinging bolster helps to provide compensation for rough track. This loco is the ideal solution to your home track and club needs.
