Contrary to what they're listed at in most books, these 1949 crowns are actually all higher purity silver than has been stated. Ostensibly .500 (50% pure), they have all actually been tested at 75% pure (.750) silver, using lab grade precious metals analysis equipment, the same equipment used in refineries and by professional bullion traders.
You can see from the photos, I've tested these two, and have tested many others over the past few years and they're all the same.
They each weigh 28.28g, for a total of 56.56g of 75% pure silver.
Condition per photos.

Hi. These coins have 50 % silver. Please update the description. c****k (68 • 12:38 pm, Tue, 7 May )Greetings - all of the references for them show them as having 50% purity. However they have been tested (as you can see in the photo I have provided) using XRF tech which shows their purity is actually .750 (75% pure). I have tested around 30 separate 1949 crowns using this equipment, and they all have the same purity. So I am confidence with the description, thank you. lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 7 May 2024 )I can assure you the coins are 50%.. XRF machines are NOT accurate in testing .500 silver coins.. Check with one of the bullion refinerys if you dont believe.. t*******1 (39 • 3:33 pm, Tue, 14 May )Agree to disagree. XRF is about as accurate as you can reasonably get. We’ve tested against known .500 silver coins which show accurately as .500 (or close to). So I am very confident about the purity on these. lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 14 May 2024 )100% incorrect! t*******1 (39 • 3:44 pm, Tue, 14 May )Oh dear, someone on the internet is wrong! I must launch a crusade immediately to correct them! The horror! Until you get your own XRF equipment and categorically prove otherwise, I’ll stick to scientifically proven methods. Thanks for your interest, friend :-) lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 14 May 2024 )As a precious metals dealer for a number of years, I have tested thousands of silver coins using a precious metals calibrated XRF machine. The majority of NZ silver coins between 1933 and 1946 test at between 50.02% silver and 58% silver by weight. The 1949 crown is constantly between 73% and 76% silver by weight. Just my crown's worth... w*****d (3 • 3:55 pm, Tue, 14 May )Much appreciated, thank you! :-) lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 14 May 2024 )Dont get your Bloomers in a twist... if you dont know, yOU DONT KNOW... you're not the first clueless idiot on TM! t*******1 (39 • 5:10 pm, Tue, 14 May )Judging by your responses, it looks like the twisted knickers are yours, friend. Have a pleasant evening :-) lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 14 May 2024 )Haha...funny conversation madness..if they are 75% silver I'm father Xmas s*********9 (671 • 6:55 pm, Tue, 14 May )Ho ho ho! :-) lincard (3269 • Tuesday, 14 May 2024 )Hey Santa, how ‘dare you’ challenge the established status quo , all those ‘experts’ and their printed books and training, and you come along, using your facts and evidence, oh the nerve of some people to stand up against purported authorities with evidence! What a cheek! The cognitive dissonance runs deep out there bro , good on you for standing your ground in honour! y*e (843 • 8:26 am, Thu, 16 May )Heh, thank you :-) In all seriousness, all authoritative references state the coins are one thing, and it’s natural to take that at face value. I get it. But *actual, evidential* testing shows different. And on multiple examples, on professional, calibrated equipment as used in actual refineries. So, I trust and stand by the evidence :-) lincard (3269 • Thursday, 16 May 2024 )When you have worked for a precious metals refinery in Australia for 11 years, you may call yourself an "expert".. i had the use of multiple XRF guns over that time and it is a well known FACT that the results for low grade silver coins are very often misleading.. but hey, dont take my word for it, contact any of the handful of precious metal refinery's in Auckland and they will set your mind at ease.. t*******1 (39 • 12:07 pm, Thu, 16 May )Thanks for your input, I’m good thanks :-) lincard (3269 • Thursday, 16 May 2024 )
