Description
Yes the real deal! An antique Chinese wooden teapot caddy.
The teamaker would place a hot teapot (a long narrow teapot) inside, with the spout poking out the hole, and then insulate by packing around the teapot with quilting. The handle has a primitive and ingenious locking device that prevents an accident with the lid slipping and it is not necessary to open the lid to pour a cup of tea.. The tea maker would then carry the tea caddy into the fields to pour the workers a cuppa. Amazing, isn't it?
Dimensions: 11¼" high (28.5cm) 9¾" wide (25cm) breadth: 7¾" (20cm)
Condition - Is in staunch, basic condition with a chip on left side of handle (on both sides) and a chip under left "wing." Both can be seen in the many photos provided. Superficial cracks in paint and, of course, the wire that binds the wood panels together is rusty as you'd expect..
So this is it - the WOW conversation piece that will be coveted by any oriental collector and I will admit unashamedly, if it doesn't sell, I'll be very happy to keep it!
This is the crown jewel, the centrepiece in any collection. I've never had one in any of my collections before and will probably never have another in this lifetime.
