  • Very nice. It's VERY hard to find these badges without their beaks broken off. Rare. k**j (310)06:59 pm, Mon, 22 Apr Do you mean the badge's attachment "prongs" kodj? (As their beaks do look pretty safe 🙂) I would GUESS 95+% of these badges LOST their incredibly delicate "pins" or "prongs" decades ago. To find a FULL SET that are fully INTACT is a true rarity these days. I do assume that the winning bidder knows this, as I know he is Ex-RNZIR (Hi John!) phillipjames (8985) • Monday, 22 April 2024
  • Do you KNOW what bird has the SHORTEST BEAK in the entire world of bird species?? The answer may be a SURPRISE?..... As it is our own National Bird the Kiwi! Apparently, the beak of a bird is measured from the beak's point, all the way down (up?) to the bird's nostrils. As the NZ Kiwi has its nostrils (uniquely) at the tip of its beak? it unwittingly WINS the SHORTEST BEAK Test 🙂 Seller comment Tuesday, 23 April 2024
  • Yes the prongs are weak but the beak is often missing. The tiny gap catches on clothes as berets are always rolled and put in pockets when indoors. And yes, I knew that about the kiwis beak. Have enjoyed teasing my kids and now grandkids about it lol. (I once had dreams of being a Forrest ranger when young, know all sorts of bird stuff) k**j (310)07:27 am, Tue, 23 Apr Well TODAY I learned another Kiwi fact THANKS Dave san.....The shortest beak in the world readily breaks off-of these annodised badges. 15 years ago I bought JR Gaunt's NZDF Badge Pattern Archive. I got 200 of the JR Gaunt-made LUGGED Anodised RNZIR cap badges in unissued "Mint" condition. Back THEN I sold them off for $30.00 each and they quite literally "flew off the shelves". More recently I have sold lug-less examples for MORE, ($45.00!) phillipjames (8985) • Tuesday, 23 April 2024
  • As apparently, the latest generation of RNZIR cap badges (From 15 years back anyway) Have a PROBLEM where the central Kiwi oval was GLUED on, and one poor soldier had the misfortune f having HIS Kiwi fall-off ON PARADE INSPECTION, he bought a Vietnam era badge from me, & told his mates about mine on TM.... and I was "sold out" within about 3 weeks Seller comment Tuesday, 23 April 2024
