I am selling off some of my families old original paintings. This is an original framed artist signed watercolour painting of the first sinking by the Imperial German submarine U53 in WW1..
This is a unique rare item relating to WW1 and Imperial German maritime history...
U53 was commanded by Kapitanleutnant Hans Rose who original oak framed portrait painting is also available at the same time (refer my other listings).
Bottom of the painting reads "SM U53 Sinking od British merchant ship SS Calypso 4th Jul 1916 WW1." SM U-53 was one of the six Type U 51 U-boats of the Imperial German Navy during WW1.
The painting comes mounted behind glass in a timber frame measuring 321mm x 241mm. The rear of the frame comes with a photo with handwritten caption "Crew of U53 in America"
