Description

Up for auction is a fine Maori bird spear in marine mammal bone.

As you can see in the photpographs, this early example has been constructed with barbs to the lower surface. The tip appears to either be broken from use or in the process of completion. A very rare taonga that one does not often see come to market.

Dimensions: Length: 95.5mm Depth: 7mm Width: 4mm Weight: 2.99g

Found in the Catlins area, South Otago, 1930's.

Please note: As this taonga is registered under the Protected Objects Act, it can only be sold to a New Zealand based registered collector. Whilst this is not negotiable, I'm happy to help you through the registration process which is free and painless.
