Description
Two 450mm diameter copper and brass ship lights which may have been made in the early 1930's by General Electric (Novalux by GE ?) They still have GE bulbs which are 240v 1000w. They have a large focus adjustment dial which is brass and is part of the aluminum housing at the bottom. I believe these lights were used for ship or general flood/spot lighting. These lights must have some significant history as they are pre WW2 and are appropriately aged but in otherwise fair condition. The u cradles are galvanised and a copper tag on one of them says they (I assume the cradles?) were made by Assantee Switchgear Pty in Sydney which i have found made electrical equipment and fittings. Google search found an Aus Govt requisition document during WW2 which has a requisition order for Essante Switchgear Pty the number was 4312 and relates to the Naval Store Officer for Garden Island in 1941, Garden island was the major Australian Naval base during WW2 and beyond. Here is the link to the requisition doc ( https://www.legislation.gov.au/file/1941gn36 ) look on page 411 on the left side and find Ref (1246) this info seems to fit with the suggested purpose of the lights.
I think they would polish up to be a really nice showpieces but are cool just as they are.
