Stamp counter book from UPPER MATAKITAKI post office . Includes a few labels that were recovered from the back of the book EXPRESS and INSURED PARCEL LABELS, that are very flimsy, and the ones that survived after being unstuck are there. Generally with full gum. AS a counter stamp book the selvage of the stamp sheets were stuck to top of each appropriate value page. The selvages have been taken off to tidy up the book. The book was in quite a dirty rough condition and much of the grime has been cleaned off. The counter book would mean little but with the 6 cancels that can be seen on the front pages of UP MATAKITAKI and a date range from 1899 to 1909 gives an insight of were the counter book originates from .So taking those dates 15Dec 1899 to 29/?/09 gives a time period as well.What is the item the book, the two stock pages of labels and a laminated page showing a larger version of the post office cancel that has been edited. Where was the Post Office situated? (Matakitaki NZETC) a building next to the Mammoth Hotel Mr T. O,Rouke Post Master also he was the owner of the Hotel he acquired in 1897.Where was the Mammoth Hotel? 14 Miles from Murchision and 4 miles from Horse Terrace (maybe near Mammoth Flats).
