Vintage New Zealand photograph by George Chance - I believe this is a silver gelatin print.
“Summer Day, South Canterbury” Frame Measures: 390w x 460h Photograph Measures: 250w x 195h
In great condition. Some marks to the frame.
One or two small marks to the glass, and very minor wear at the bottom right corner of the photograph.
George Chance moved to New Zealand in 1909, he practiced as an optometrist, but also a photographer – and one who has become a celebrated icon of New Zealand landscape photography; particularly landscape photography.
“George Chance flew the flag for pictorialism in New Zealand – a style that stressed atmosphere over subject matter”
Collections of Chance’s works are held in many public and private collections – including the Auckland Art Gallery and Te Papa.
