Journey Towards Christmas: Official History of the 1st Ammunition Company Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 1939-45 by S. P. Llewellyn. Hard covered 4.8 cm thick book of 457 pages and written in 1949. There is no dust jacket, internally the book is in quite reasonable condition with heaps of pics and fold out maps, there is the odd light brown foxing stain in the book. On the first blank page in the book there is a 3 word biro inscription saying a library which has closed down. The cover cloth is tatty and has a split at the spine, this is just the cloth and not structural, see last pic. This book is a record of the achievements in the Middle East and Italy of the 1st Ammunition Company. They took part in the desert campaign against the Italians in 1940. They were 6 years overseas of which 53 months were spent on active operation which included the campaign in the Western Desert and Italy. New Zealanders were ideal men for the class of warfare in the Western Desert, they found their way across the unmapped featureless desert by night as well as day with uncanny skill, almost by instinct. The book tells of the units formation, their work in training and in battle, it deals with their successes and also the disasters such as Greece. Basically the book is a record of one of the most efficient and well trained units of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
