This is a fully functional EMC SAN, SPS batteries need replacing so we'd not put it in a production environment however it still has a wide range of uses from backup medium, spare to training platform, disaster recovery etc.

The CX4-120 came ex factory with 120x disks, we've reconfigured this to get the power use down and provide some maintenance spares. It's set up with 60x disks and can use less if buyer doesn't need all the storage.

This is comprised of the 1U SPS battery pack which is a UPS style unit, 2U SPE processor enclosure with I/o cards and 3U DAE disk enclosures. The SPE has 4gb fibre channel and dual GbE ethernet iSCSI modules installed.

Hard disks are 55x 600GB 15k fibre channel and 5x 300Gb 15k for the vault drives. There's also a few 600Gb and 300Gb spares along with a spare DAE.

We've had this running and it works fine, installed flare code is 04.30.000.5.524. We'll supply login credentials, management is via Unisphere which can be launched from a web browser.

We'll note for those new to EMC that these do take a while to get up to speed on, unlike the cheap entry level SANs they're pretty complex and there is a learning curve. (There's still a couple of unconnected hosts set up that we haven't figured out how to delete, it may be supplied that way yet)

Both SPS units are working however the batteries are old and need replacing. (Each SPS takes 5x 6volt SLA batteries) The system can run without the SPS but it will disable caching and report an SPE/SPS error.
