HDMI output means that the LASER DVD-008 DVD player can playback HD(720) movies in full 5.1 surround sound (assuming of course you have a HD TV and/or a Home Theatre system). If you dont have HDMI, then youre only going to get standard definition video and 2 channel audio (which you can still get on the HD008 if you want). The USB port can play back a variety of movie, sound and image files from a USB memory stick and USB shared drives, making this DVD player a versatile media player as well.
