  • Support Worker - full time - one-on-one care - based in Lower Hutt

PLEASE NOTE: for this particular position only male candidates can be considered.

We are looking for a Support Worker to join our team in Lower Hutt. This is stimulating and meaningful work where you can be creative and make every day interesting in ways that are important to others.

The role is a full time one. The nature of the role ideally means it would be ideal if you are someone who has had caregiving experience of some kind in the past. However, if you have the necessary mixture of positivity, enthusiasm, patience and desire to make a real difference then we would welcome your application.

You will be working one-on-one with a male intellectually disabled client. Our client lives with a variety of challenges and so needs help with their physical and personal cares.

You do need to have a full NEW ZEALAND drivers' licence in order to be eligible to apply. This is because you will be out and about a lot (an IDEA Services vehicle is supplied).

You will also be responsible for overseeing physical exercise routines and managing dietary requirements.

In addition, you will be offering general assistance around personal cares relating to showering and dressing.

As a personality, you must be comfortable with working on your own. You will need to have a calm, supportive and patient demeanour and be willing to build a positive style of engagement with our client.

This is obviously not a standard caregiver type role. You will be active and out-and-about a lot and will enjoy a busy but rewarding working day.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by a single individual. You will be helping them to achieve their day-to-day goals, participate in daily activities and generally gain personal confidence - things that so many of us often take for granted.

The role of a Support Worker involves providing assistance to individuals in developing their independence and acquiring skills for daily living. This includes tasks like helping them with public transportation, employment, finances, and meal preparation. Depending on the specific work environment, Support Workers may also assist with individual needs such as shopping, cleaning, showering, and medication administration.
