Mo te tunga | About the role

We are contracted by Manatu Hauora/Ministry of Health to provide a housing and recovery service focusing on supporting people with a mental illness. Many residents also have other issues such as substance abuse, intellectual disability, or physical health problems. Some are under the Mental Health Act.

The supported accommodation service is a cluster of six homes in a neighbourhood near Raumati beach. Staff work across the site, supporting residents to set goals, manage medication, complete activities of daily living, and explore new possibilities for growth and development. We work closely with local health and support services.

In this role you will:

  • Supporting residents to set goals and explore new possibilities for growth and development.
  • Assist people to complete activities of daily living, like managing medication.
  • Assist people to develop and maintain community relationships and networks
  • Support people to strengthen their capacity to be safe and a valued member of their family, whanau and the community
  • Support people to live a healthy lifestyle

No prior experience in the health and disability sector is necessary, but a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker with a positive attitude is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts.
  • A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours.
  • Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
  • A Full NZ driver's license or willingness to work towards obtaining one.
