Awanui Labs Hamilton (previously known as Hamilton SCL) provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, healthcare professionals and their patients. Awanui labs Hamilton is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.

About the Role:
  • We are seeking either a Specimen Services Trainee or Phlebotomist.
  • This is a 6 month Fixed Term - Full-time role, the end date will be on or around 25 October 2024. This position works 80 hours per fortnight.

The key tasks include:
  • Barcoding, receipting and preparing specimens coming in to the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; and some general administration tasks.
  • Specimen collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., urine, blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing specimens for transportation.
  • Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

To succeed in this role you will need the following:
  • A positive and friendly approach to your work and demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity.
  • Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.
  • Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
  • A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including; safety, and hands-on practical experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.
  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an annual practicing certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Specimen Services or Phlebotomy is desirable, but not essential
  • Good computer skills.
  • Reliable transport and full Driver's license.
  • Eligibility to work in NZ.
