Type Full time, Permanent
Meridian is the largest producer of renewable electricity in Aotearoa, and we strive to deliver clean energy for a fairer and healthier world. We only generate electricity from 100% renewable resources – wind, water, and sun, because we believe that’s the best way forward for our planet and our communities. We’re doing what we can to help Aotearoa reduce their carbon emissions and support others in our generation communities to do the same. We also retail electricity to more than 365,000 homes, businesses, and farms across New Zealand through our Meridian and Powershop brands.

What you’ll be doing

Ensure successful delivery of quality service on our 70-meters high wind turbines at our Te Apiti site situated north of the Manawatu Gorge, and just 10 kilometres from Palmerston North.

Each day, you’ll carry out scheduled services and reactive maintenance on several of the 55 turbines on site, which generate enough electricity each year for about 73,000 average New Zealand homes! You will also be required to respond to reactive fault finding and monitoring outside of normal working hours on a rostered basis.

Your peers are a team of multi-disciplined Wind Maintenance Technicians who work hard to keep our turbines in great shape. With the support of the Team Lead, you will work safely on a daily basis to deliver on our maintenance plan consisting of electrical, hydraulic and other key mechanical equipment.

Additional to your day-to-day activities you will be open to development opportunities, growing your trade knowledge and experience as you progress through our competency framework.
Please note that there may be a requirement for you to work away from your home base at another site short term, when required.

What you’ll bring

• Candidates who are either registered Electricians/EST, trade-qualified Mechanical Technicians, or Hydraulic Engineers with relevant trade sub-disciplines (such as Marine, Oil & Gas, Dairy, or Heavy Industry)Ideally you’ll have some electrical and mechanical fault-finding experience, with the ability to read and interpret schematic drawings.
• You’ll use your IT and communication skills to track and report on tasks completed.
• Because of the nature of the work, you’ll need to be physically fit and able to climb up to 70 meters and lift up to 25kg.
• You’ll be comfortable working in confined spaces, and it goes without saying able to work at height!
• Prepared to get your hands dirty in support of mechanical tasks as part of any given day.
• Having experience in the wind industry, proven fault-finding experience, and an appetite and ability to work in all types of conditions will be an advantage.
