1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Cosworth
$45,800
Description
1989 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth 2 owners 61,000 miles (99,000km)
A very rare car with only 5743 produced between 1988 and 1993, most of which were LHDs. As a 2.5-16 it has Bosch K-Jetronic Injection and a double-row timing chain (as opposed to a single row on the 2.3-16 version) and makes 204bhp.
A nice original example in Almadine Red with full black leather trim (an option on these). The car was delivered new in the UK and came to New Zealand in 1995, having just one owner until 2021 when I purchased it. I am a Mercedes Benz enthusiast, and searched for a good one for several years!
During my ownership, I have had anything that needed attention or maintenance attended to. Has recently had a new fuel pressure regulator fitted, (leaks are common in this generation, on investigation found our R107 300SL was also leaking), a leak in the steering rack fixed, etc, and four new tires fitted (Bridgestone). There is a little bit of minor pitting in the clearcoat on the rear around the number plate, but I have chosen to leave it, in the interests of originality. The car is very original and appears to have been very well looked after.
It has the usual Cosworth features, sports seats, a body kit, extra gauges including a stopwatch in the center console, and individual bucket seats in the rear. Also has optional full leather trim, heated seats electric tilt & slide sunroof, headlamp wash/wipe, an automatic gearbox, and a period Pioneer stereo with little tweeters on the dashboard - so it would have been fully specified when ordered new.
There are very few of these 2.5-16 Cosworth models in New Zealand, and it would be not easy to find a better one - it was consigned to Webbs for sale recently but failed to sell at their recommended appraisal level ($90k-$120k).
Sadly, we just have too many classic Mercedes Benz cars, and the time has come to choose which to keep as we are moving to a smaller property with less garaging.
Viewing by appointment in Tauranga.
