1985 Toyota Hilux yn65

85 Hilux, 2 L, YN65, 4wd, single cab, petrol, manual, ute.

Deregistered, no wof. Last reg 2019.

First 6 pics Oct 23. Next few, winter 23 before rust removal and painting. Last pics, before dismantling.

Was running ok, but grubby and rusty. Had fresh oil and coolant. Stripped it down to deal with the rust last winter.

Cab stripped and removed from chassis.

Chassis was then tidied up with cleaning / grinding / wire brushing etc for rust removal, then treated with CRC rust converter and painted with Wattyl Killrust black enamel.

Transmission and driveshafts cleaned back then treated with CRC galv zinc.

Project now on hold. Will put rear brakes and wheels back on for removal.

Rear springs, hangers, bushes etc were removed and cleaned up, rust treated and painted.

Wheels removed, wire brushed back, rust converted as required, and multi-coated with Wattyl Killrust white enamel. Not shown in photos.

Front bumper dismantled, rust removed, treated, painted etc.

Fuel tank wire brushed, treated in places, then painted with Killrust black. A couple of pinprick holes on upper half cleaned back then filled with Selleys Steel epoxy putty.

A few basic weld repairs on frame and rear cross member / spare wheel holder (not suitable for getting it recertified for road use).

Have cut rust out of cab floor / foot well both sides, and upper firewall. Driver's floor needs rewelding to side frame. Was planning to do home weld repair (not suitable for getting re-certified, but basic repairs for farm hack etc).

Windscreen is cracked. One headlight was broken at the back and the glass backing has been epoxy glued back. Various other defects, minor bits missing etc.

Deck was stripped back, rust treated and painted in Wattyl killrust. Cross members have rusted out in places. These haven't been replaced, just taken back, treated and painted. Timber has been sanded and oiled.
