These Rainbowfish range up to 4cm long and some are showing pattern and colour. They are an active but peaceful schooling fish that can grow to about 15cm.

The parents have a great reddish colour on their fins. These fish like to swim and are very fast, they go a lot better in a school of 6 or more in large tank with room to move around in and stretch their fins.

The male of the species (pictured) is flashier of the two. The females do not have the checked fins like the males do, but when they get older they show some color. They are hard to photograph as they move so fast.

Known scientifically as 'Melanotaenia splendida inornata'

Rainbow fish are tropical fish originating from Northern Australia and must be kept in a heated aquarium.
