Obtaining Five young fish is a great way to get a breeding colony started.

Bristle Nose cat fish do not mate in pairs. One male tends to become dominant and mates with all the available females, He then guards the collective eggs till they become free swimming youngsters.

These are particularly beautiful fish and are very seldom available in New Zealand.

The ones I have available are between 30 mm and 40 mm at this stage, nearing maturity, but the adult females grow to about 100 mm and the males to almost 150 mm.

They are an excellent peaceful tropical tank inhabitant.

They love algae and I feed them a lot of blanched lattice leaf. THEY DO NOT EAT LIVE PLANTS.
