Hoekstra Pianos in Ferrymead, Christchurch is owned by Wytze Hoekstra, piano technician - and pianist himself - who has the years of experience and qualifications to back up the sale of every piano with expert service and his personal guarantee.
The Ferrymead store is open five days a week and has a piano for everyone and every budget: for beginners and music students, families with young children, advanced pianists as well as schools and institutions. We have a selection of over sixty instruments on the floor, ready for you to play and try out at your leisure. We do not stock digital pianos or keyboards as we agree with most piano teachers that only an acoustic instrument can provide the musical experience, tactile feedback and pleasure that piano playing brings.
Wytze Hoekstra is a fully qualified ARPT concert technician. His experience includes ongoing professional exchanges with piano technicians in NZ, Australia, USA and Vienna Austria. Wytze has prepared and tuned pianos for the NZSO, CSO, NZ Opera, international pianists like Michael Houston, Michael Endres, Soomi Kim and many others*.
Every piano receives a very careful set-up procedure which includes tuning to concert pitch, double lubrication of all internal friction surfaces and action regulation. The final step is careful hammer voicing which brings out the delicate nuances of piano tonality.
Our most popular instruments are the new FEURICH (Vienna) pianos and YAMAHA pianos imported directly from Japan.
FEURICH PIANOS are based in Vienna. Design, sourcing of parts and production management is done from the Vienna headquarters. There is also a Feurich factory in this city, where two of the upright models are produced. Like another European manufacturer, Bechstein, some of the production is outsourced to the renowned Hailun factory in Ningbo China. Parts come from all over the world and quality is paramount: Röslau strings and hammers from Bechstein, Renner and others, Australian Merino wool felts, high altitude spruce for the soundboards. No plastic is used in the actions or in the sharp (black) keys.
Our YAMAHA pianos are Wytze's selection of "A" Grade Japanese imports. These pianos receive the same expert set-up as all our pianos and as a result they sound rich and warm with a carefully controlled brilliance. We have put these instruments in Canterbury homes for twenty years and it is safe to say that few of our customers ever regret investing in a second-hand Yamaha piano.
All come with a seven year guarantee, a free adjustable bench and a free tuning in your home after delivery. You can buy a Japanese import from Hoekstra Pianos in confidence.
