Description
1930's Australian Made Bakelite 'Capstan' Quick Strop'. "The Razors Edge".
In excellent order for its age with the top half of the original box. A great piece for your barbershop, mancave, or curiosity cabinet.
Australian made ‘Capstan Quikstrop’. Designed in the 1930’s, this Bakelite cased machine is intended for sharpening razor blades. In today’s throwaway society it may seem odd that razor blades were once regarded as being worth being resharpened to extend their life, but this was a different time.
The razor blade is placed flat on the brass surface with the capstans in the open middle area of the blade. The device is closed over and when the cord is pulled, the blade is massaged between the sprung red whetstones on either side. A few pulls backward and forward with the cord (this unit has a loop on one end, suggesting it was hung and the unit moved up and down the cord. Now perhaps an interesting addition for a collector of grooming type equipment.
