Description
This is an auction for CAPTAIN WILLIAM CRUSH DALDY 1816-1903 by Lesley Dugdale.
"Captain William Crush Daldy 1816-1903 could rightly be called one of New Zealand’s founding fathers. Few early settlers – and Daldy was one of the very earliest, having arrived in Auckland in 1841 – have had such a lasting impact on the fabric of the country, as this biography by his great-great-granddaughter attests. Not only did he contribute his skills as a merchant mariner to the development of New Zealand’s fledgling economy, but he helped create the Auckland Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Bank of New Zealand, the NZI Insurance Company, the Auckland Savings Bank, and the Auckland Harbour Board. This story of Daldy’s extraordinary career brings home the realities of early colonial life and allows us to share in the day-to-day activities of the sturdy pioneers."
