Description
H.M.S. Dromedary sailed to the Bay of Islands in 1820 to trade for kauri timber to make spars for sailing ships. Intending to make only a short visit, the stay was extended to ten months, allowing Major Richard Cruise to investigate the various ports and Maori villages they encountered. His journal accurately records the daily life of the tribespeople and how they integrated with settlers and the crews of whaling and trading ships in the very early days of New Zealand settlement. First published in 1849, this edition has been beautifully reprinted for the modern reader. 340 page paperback, A5 size
