Sue Chetwin: “Know your rights”

Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin has kindly penned a guest post about the upcoming changes to consumer law that kick in later this month.
Your rights as a consumer are about to get stronger but unless you know what they are, you might still be ripe for a rip-off.
Starting here at Trade Me, a vocal supporter of consumer law reform, you are about to get a bunch of rights as a buyer (and obligations as a seller) you never had before. From 17 June, no matter how you buy something on this site – auction or Buy Now – if it’s from a business you will have rights if something goes wrong. New feature: Shopping Cart
We’re really excited today to release our brand new Shopping Cart feature, now available to all Trade Me members.
The Cart can be used for listings that offer Buy Now and credit card payment via Pay Now. To add an item to your Cart, click the ‘Add to Cart’ button when you see it on a listing.
Sell your car by number plate
We’re excited to announce a nifty new feature for Trade Me Motors that will make selling your car even easier.
With some help from our friends at NZTA, we can now grab a bunch of information about your car and fill in most of the listing details for you – all you need to do is provide us your number plate or VIN!
Free Gallery ending for Jeans, pants & shorts
Earlier this year we kicked off a promotion for free Gallery in the Jeans, pants & shorts category.

Once we’ve turned off the free Gallery promotion you will be charged for Gallery when you relist if you selected Gallery for your listing. You can deselect this option if you’re not keen on using the Gallery feature. More...
