3x cool new site changes today

Written by Shona in General and Top Seller at 2:35pm, Thu 7 Apr 2011

1. Optional phone number added to delivery information

We’ve had a bit of feedback from sellers who ship larger items, especially those who use couriers. Some couriers won’t deliver packages unless the customer’s phone number is included, so sellers often need buyers to include a contact phone number.

To help things along, we’ve added an optional phone number field for the buyer when they enter their delivery information. It’s not a huge change, but it should make life easier for a lot of sellers. More...

On this all-new Cool Auctions landing page you can not only view a bunch of cool listings, but bid on them, and add your favourites to your Watchlist.

Trade Me launched Treat Me today

Written by Paul in General at 4:56pm, Tue 15 Mar 2011

We launched Treat Me today, our brand spanking new group-buying site that will offer discounted deals in Auckland and Wellington, before spreading across the country.

Treat Me will harness the retro coolness of vouchers and coupons, kicked off by Groupon in the USA back in 2008. With the Kiwi market still in its infancy, we’re confident Treat Me will appeal to Kiwi advertisers and buyers as a place to find a great deal.

Just like Trade Me, Treat Me will be focused on providing consumers with more spending power and helping local businesses reach additional customers. It will operate as a separate business unit with a dedicated team, led by a smart guy called James MacAvoy. More...

Canterbury earthquake: an update

Written by The Trade Me team in General and Scheduled maintenance at 9:45am, Tue 1 Mar 2011

Trade Me will observe two minutes' silence for the victims of the devastating Canterbury earthquake today. As a result, we will be offline between 12:51pm and 12:53pm, one week after the tragic events in Christchurch.

We think it is important to acknowledge the friends and family of the people who have died and are missing. (Please note that all auctions due to close between 12.45pm and 1pm will be extended by 30 minutes.)

We have also made a change to the “seller success fee top-up” and have added the Salvation Army’s Canterbury Earthquake Relief Appeal as an option for sellers, replacing our long-term partner Forest & Bird.  More...

Changes to classified extensions

Written by The Trade Me team in General and Motors at 11:47am, Thu 24 Feb 2011

Since the dawn of time, extending classifieds on the site was a bit like unraveling spaghetti - each type of classified had its own set of rules, which was pretty confusing. So, as of today, there are some changes to general item and Motors classified extensions to make them more consistent:

1. Extensions are now fixed at 14 days.
2. Classifieds may only be extended in the final 72 hours before they expire.
3. The extension will apply from the original expiry date of the classified.
4. If you choose to promote your classified, you will be charged for this when you extend it.

And remember if your listing has expired, you can relist it for free (within 45 days of the end date).
