Home & Living: iPad winners
Last month, anyone who spent $25 or more in the Home & Living category was in with a chance of winning a brand spanking new iPad.
The good news is there are five winners, hailing from Hamilton (x2), Wellington, Auckland and Arrowtown. The bad news is that if we haven't been in touch with you, then you're not one of the lucky five.
Thanks to everyone who entered. And if you're gutted that you didn't win, you can find yourself an iPad over here right now.
Free volunteer listings in Canterbury
At Trade Me Jobs, we're keen to do our little bit to help Canterbury out as the region begins to pick up the pieces after the devastating earthquake.
For the rest of the month, casual listings for all voluntary roles listed in the Canterbury region will be free. These roles will remain on Trade Me Jobs for 30 days (unless removed earlier by the advertiser).
You'll see a little line of red text letting you know about this when you list a job too. More...
Waterfront wi-fi on the way for Wellington
Visitors to the Wellington waterfront are set to enjoy fast and free wireless internet access in time for Christmas, thanks to a joint effort by Trade Me and Wellington City Council.
The free wi-fi network will mean visitors to the waterfront will be able to surf the internet via a wireless network from Queens Wharf, across to the NZX Centre, and down to Te Papa. We reckon the network will be all up and running in early December 2010.
We're doing it because it seems like a good thing to do - there are no commercial or revenue objectives in the mix. We're an online business and we love being part of Wellington, and we hope that lots of locals, tourists, travelling business people and community groups get amongst it. More...

A little patience after the Christchurch quake
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you will be aware that early on Saturday morning Canterbury was awoken by a big shake. It’s times like these that often bring the Trade Me message boards to life, and the weekend was no exception. It was humbling to see many messages posted that showed that people were not only talking about the earthquake and its impact, but exchanging information and working out how to help each other. When civil emergencies like this hit, the message boards act a pretty useful conduit to information and also a way for people to support each other.
At a purely practical level, we’ve received several queries from people asking about their trades, and what happens if the item they’re selling is broken, or if they’re waiting for an item from a seller in the earthquake zone. It probably goes without saying for many, but we’d urge everyone for a little bit of patience and understanding around these issues at the moment. If you are expecting something you have bought from a Canterbury seller please try to be as flexible as possible.
Obviously life has been disrupted for thousands of Trade Me members in Canterbury, and big issues like access to clean drinking water and getting the electricity back on are going to be higher up the priority list than packing off a Trade Me parcel! More...
