Description
The Cocktail X40 is a pre-amp, music hard drive (on which I've stored lots of CDs - which you'll get - but you can delete if you want) and, most importantly, a wireless or cabled (I've run it both ways) streamer just like a Sonos Port or WiiM Pro Plus Streamer. You control it through the MusicX Neo app on your phone and stream your Spotify, Tidal etc or listen to streaming radio (BBC etc) or your stored CDs. I've run it connected to my amplifier and it sounds fantastic. Very simple to set up to your wifi network and your other hifi equipment. Have a read of the reviews https://www.cocktailaudio.com/home/sub01_03.php and https://www.soundstagehifi.com/index.php/equipment-reviews/850-cocktail-audio-x40-music-server. In very good condition. I bought it from Sound Expression in Wellington 7 or 8 years ago.
The downside is that the app is clunky and not as user friendly as Sonos or WiiM. So while I've been fine with that app my wife and daughters haven't - they just prefer the Sonos interface.
If you're looking for a Sonos Port to connect to your amp, then this will do the same job - plus give you all the storage.
Priced to sell as I don't want to leave in the cupboard.
Dimensions 44cm x 10cm x 33cm
Pick in central Wellington (Oriental Bay) or will ship in an amplifier box.

Comes with a remote - but I've hardly ever used it. Prefer to control through the MusicX Neo app Seller comment Saturday, 4 May 2024 What's the general condition, marks, scratches? Thanks r*****1 (98 • 08:27 am, Mon, 6 May )It's very good. The face plate (that you see in the photos) is unmarked - no scratches. The LCD screen is like new. paulrs (237 • Monday, 6 May 2024 )Hi, are you the Original owner and how old is the unit? Thanks d******m (452 • 06:11 pm, Wed, 8 May )I bought it from Sound Expression in Wellington where it had been a demo. That was about 7 years ago. paulrs (237 • Wednesday, 8 May 2024 )A correction. I bought it from The Listening Post in Wellington, when they were in Willis Street. Not Sound Expression. I bought other stuff from them. Seller comment Wednesday, 8 May 2024 Hi, do you have the antenna for this unut and does it do bluetooth Spotify? d******m (452 • 09:11 pm, Wed, 8 May )No antenna as it doesn't play AM or FM radio. You listen to radio using a streaming app on your phone (like TuneIn). paulrs (237 • Wednesday, 8 May 2024 )You play Spotify by connecting to the same wifi network (not Bluetooth), Step 1 - connect the Cocktail X40 to your wifi (wireless or cabled). Step 2 - connect the Cocktail X40 to your amplifier by the usual cables. Step 3 - connect your phone, with the MusicX Neo app installed, to the same wifi network. Step 4 - control the Cocktail X40 through this app and stream Spotify, TuneIn or whatever else and listen through your amp and speakers. Seller comment Wednesday, 8 May 2024 Can you still rip cds, any problems? w*******f (401 • 07:41 pm, Fri, 10 May )Yes. I ripped them in when I first got the unit using the CD drive built into the unit. I haven't done again for ages but there's no reason why a new owner can't do so. paulrs (237 • Friday, 10 May 2024 )No known problems with ripping CDs. As I say, its just been awhile since I did.
