Description
For sale is a Japanese-made Technics SL-BD20 turntable
Vinyl records have made a huge comeback, which has encouraged manufacturers to release budget turntable (such as Ion, mBeat, Crosley etc). However, these turntables lack the basic features and build quality (such as an aluminium platter) needed to get decent playback.
The SL-BD20 is a 2-speed belt drive turntable (33 & 45rpm) and is semi-automatic with auto return and auto cut. This means that you manually cue the tonearm and then when it reaches the end of the record it will return the tonearm to the post and automatically turn off. This offers the best of both worlds and minimises mechanical interference.
It features an over-sized 312mm aluminium alloy diecast platter and DC Servo-controlled motor. It has a static balanced straight tonearm which delivers excellent trackability. I've added real timber veneer to increase it's vintage charm.
The SL-BD20 features a P-mount (T4P cartridge), which is designed so that the cartridge attaches directly to the tonearm, which is then screwed tight so that the cartridge does not move during playback. T4P cartridges are popular with turntable owners who want a simple plug and play mounting system that is easily replaced (without the need to finely balance the tonearm via an adjustable counterweight).
It’s in good condition and works sweet…however it doesn’t have a dust cover. One can easily be made by Cambrian Plastics (in Auckland) if you want one.
It comes with a nice Technics P-24 P-mount cartridge and the original user manual.
Good luck
