This is a unique opportunity to snag yourself a one of a kind piece of All Blacks history. Up for grabs is this 1995 Rugby World Cup Commemorative Statue. It was commisioned by NZRU in anticipation of a victory against South Africa in the infamous 1995 Rugby World Cup.

The statue depicts a New Zealand All Blacks player holding the Webb Ellis Cup aloft, standing on a depiction of South Africa. The Cup and South Africa are both 24k gold plate. Around the base of the statue reads 'Rugby World Champions South Africa 1995'. The statue stands 63cm tall, and is approximately 20cm wide at the base. The statue also comes with a custom made box for storage and transport.

Included is a certificate of authenticity. Also included in the auction and featured in the images are letters from NZRU and from Maeve Allen, who was the person commisioned to create the statues originally. These shed further light on the story behind this piece.

Originally 100 were to be produced 'to be sold to sponsors, administration and players', but when we lost the order was cancelled. Only 4 were ever made, and this one, number 1 of 4 is the only one to include a 24k gold plate South Africa under the player. Two more were produced without the depiction of South Africa, and another was kept (unfinished) by the sculptor himself. The original mould was destroyed in 1995, ensuring the statues would never be replicated.

The 1995 Rugby World Cup was important historically for many reasons. It was the first major sporting event to include a post-apartheid South Africa. It was the last Rugby World Cup of Rugby Unions' amatuer era, as two months later the sport was opened up to profesionalism. There was also an air of drama and intrigue surrounding the final due to the 'accidental' food poisoning of almost the entire New Zealand side.
