Buying & selling on Trade Me with Afterpay

Afterpay makes it possible to get that item you really want, without having to pay the full cost straight away!

Your payment is split over four equal fortnightly payments, it’s interest free, and it’s free to use – as long as you pay on time. Also, any purchase made with Afterpay makes you eligible for our Buyer Protection policy which means you’re covered if something goes wrong.

Once you’ve found an item that offers Afterpay and have selected ‘Buy Now’ or won the auction, simply select ‘Afterpay’ as your payment option.

You’ll be taken to the Afterpay website where you sign in securely (or if it’s your first time, then you’ll follow some simple steps to sign up). Confirm your first payment and you’ll be taken back to Trade Me.

You’ll get an email from Afterpay with your payment schedule and your remaining payments will be charged automatically each fortnight – you’ll get notifications from Afterpay too so there are no surprises.

By adding Afterpay to your listing, you’ll be giving buyers the ability to make a decision to buy without having to pay the full cost straight away. It might be just the thing to make your listings stand out. If you’ve relisted a few times, try adding Afterpay to help it sell!

When a buyer pays for your item with Afterpay, you’ll get paid within three business days, and there’s no hassle having to arrange payment – Afterpay organises the remaining payments directly with the buyer.

It costs 4.95% of the total purchase, including shipping costs to sell your stuff with Afterpay. This fee is additional to any success fees you incur on a sale and you can check out your recent sales on your Pay Now and Afterpay statement.

You can use Afterpay as a payment option on Marketplace listings valued up to $2000 when you list on our desktop site. There are some category restrictions which may either stop certain members from using Afterpay, or not allow Afterpay as a payment option.

To get started and set yourself up to sell using Afterpay, you’ll need to register for Pay Now. Once you’re up and running, simply add Afterpay as an option when you’re setting up your next listing!
