You may have noticed Kevin the Kiwi sporting a pink shirt today – he’s celebrating Pink Shirt Day, an annual event celebrated throughout New Zealand and around the world.

Pink Shirt Day is aimed at raising awareness about the power to prevent bullying. Its goal is to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting the development of positive social relationships.

The event began in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2007 when a group of students stood up to defend a kid who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The students took a stand by all wearing pink shirts to show solidarity, handing out pink shirts for their classmates to wear.

Our staffers here at Trade Me are getting involved too by donning their pink shirts (see the pic below). If you’d like more information about Pink Shirt Day, click here.

If you’d like to share a picture of you and your friends or colleagues wearing your pink shirts, feel free to post it on our Facebook page.
