All pages now use HTTPS technology

Written by The Trade Me team in General at 9:00am, Wed 30 Aug 2017

This morning we made some changes to make the desktop version of Trade Me even more secure. Previously, the URL for some of our pages began with “http”, however they now start with “https” (the ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’).

We’ve had ‘secure’ versions of pages on the desktop site for several years where it matters the most (e.g. log in screens, payment screens, My Trade Me features, and the ‘Sell’ process). Today’s change goes above and beyond to ensure all pages work the same way, from a security perspective.

The only change you might notice is seeing the padlock icon on all pages throughout Trade Me, instead of just on the important pages, which makes it much harder for external parties to snoop in on network traffic. More...

An update to our terms and conditions

Written by The Trade Me Team in General at 12:00pm, Mon 28 Aug 2017

Today the Afterpay terms for Trade Me sellers come into effect, as we announced on 31 July 2017. If you’re a seller and interested in offering Afterpay on your listings, please take a look at the terms.

Today we’ve also made some Afterpay-related changes to our standard Terms and conditions, Privacy policy and the Buyer Protection policy.

We’ll be launching Afterpay in September. If you’re keen to get buying with Afterpay, make sure you visit our sign-up page to pre-register and go into the draw to win one of five $2,000 shopping sprees (conditions apply).

An update to our Privacy policy

Written by The Trade Me Team in General at 3:00pm, Tue 15 Aug 2017

We wanted to let you know about a change we’ll be making to our Privacy policy on 4 September 2017. This change will mean that from early September, we'll ask for the name and number on a firearms licence before allowing a Trade Me member to bid, ask questions, click ‘Buy Now’ or continue with the purchase of a firearms listing.

While Trade Me already places a number of restrictions on the sale of firearms, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes with Police to increase the safety and transparency of our firearms community.

Currently, in order to bid, buy or ask a question about a firearm, a Trade Me member must enter details from their firearms licence. From next month, we will be able to verify that the buyer or seller has a legitimate and current firearms licence, and that those details match their Trade Me membership. More...
