The Auckland Racing Club and Resene have put together a cool idea called "The Fastest Art Exhibition" that will end up generating a pile of cash for 18 charities around New Zealand. Here at Trade Me HQ we're proud to be helping out in our own small way. Here's a run down on the idea.

Horse races are traditionally won with speed, but artistic talent will play a big part in deciding which horse will raise the most funds for charity in the Fastest Art race.

18 life-size fibreglass horses, painted by the likes of artist Billy Apple, fashionista Karen Walker and thespian Oscar Kightley, were revealed for the first time at Ellerslie this week.

One has been dipped in gold, another covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals, one has been given a full graffiti makeover by the Warriors league team.

It has been an artistic feat of immense proportions for the artists, who have transformed plain white horses into one-off pieces of art in only seven weeks.

After their big "reveal", the horses will be let loose on a tour around Auckland until Friday 4 March, popping up around the city in all sorts of weird and wonderful places. They will then return to Ellerslie for Auckland Cup Week, before joining the new stables of their respective auction winners.
